Pão de Açucar Group turnover rises 15.8 % in Q3 2013

Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA) achieved net revenues of R$ 14.08 billion in the third quarter of 2013, according to preliminary operating data disclosed on Thursday. Compared to the same period last year, an increase of 15.8 %. The performance was helped by the opening of 20 new stores between July and September .

Via Retail continued to lead the growth of the group sales. The company, which gathers Casas Bahia, Ponto Frio and company's online businesses, recorded a high of 17.4% in net revenues, on the same basis, to R$ 6.33 billion. The food segment, in turn, had net revenues of R$ 7.74 billion, an increase of 14.5 % .

According to a statement filed with the Securities Commission (CVM), GPA Food was benefited by the consumption of perishables in the period. These products - such as meat, vegetables and fruits - had sales above inflation, accelerating its growth over the first half .

Excluding the food units, Pão de Açucar observed better performance specially with tablets, phones and televisions. In hypermarkets, an area that still did poorly in sales of consumer electronics, there was some recovery, according to the company .

Considering only stores open at least one year ago, GPA recorded an increase of 10.8 % in the third quarter, 7.1% coming from food and 15.4 % from Via Retail.

Within the segment GPA Alimentar (Food), the highlight was the wholesale brand Assaí, with 37.4 % increase in gross revenues.
For the second half of the year, the Group said that this area will continue to expand in states where it ois already present.

About the Nova Pontocom, which brings together the Group's ecommerce businesses, the company said that it could manage to keep the prices of some products, making the operation more competitive. The increase in gross revenues of this segment was 43.9 % in the quarter .
